St Lucia Carnival in Castries
The St. Lucia Carnival is held every July, with a month full of activities, shows and two main days of parading and dancing in the streets.
The activities include competitions and performances by Mas (short for Masquerade) bands, calypso and soca (soul calypso) singers, steel bands and beauty contests. These build the anticipation for the main parade later in the month.
During the parade revellers take to the streets
in celebrations of colour and music as each carnival band strives
to capture the coveted title of "Band of the Year". This main event
is held in the streets of Castries which is about 15 minutes drive
from the Oceanview Hotel.
Guest interested in joining a carnival band can do so through the
hotel at least three months before the festival.
